Giacomo Puccini – MADAMA BUTTERFLY

The Metropolitan Opera in the Palace of Arts in Budapest

March 07. 2009 Saturday 19:00 - 23:00

Auditorium, Blue Hall, Palace of Arts, Budapest

Conductor: Patrick Summers
Featuring: Cristina Gallardo-Domâs, Maria Zifchak, Marcello Giordani, Dwayne Croft
Production: Anthony Minghella

Cristina Gallardo-Domâs first sang the role of Cio-Cio San in 1990 in her home town Santiago da Chile. Three years later she was on stage in the Scala (in Puccini’s The Swallow) and invitations from all over the world came pouring in, primarily for Puccini roles. The director himself, Anthony Minghella, who, sadly, passed away young in May 2008, selected her for Madame Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera. The theatrical expert primarily known for his radio plays made his debut as an opera director at the English National Opera with Madame Butterfly in 2005. A year later he staged his ideas in Vilnius and New York too. Marcello Giordani sings the tenor lead role of the opera in the series “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD”.
