All Hungary’s motorways start from the capital (M1: Budapest-Gyõr-Hegyeshalom- (Vienna); M3: Budapest-Miskolc-(Debrecen, Nyíregyháza); M5: Budapest-Szeged; M7: Budapest-Lake Balaton; M0: Budapest Ring).
Minor roads are designated by multi-digit numbers, beginning with the number of the main road from which they start. M1, M3, M5 and M7 are toll roads.
Passes (stickers) must be purchased in advance,they are available at larger petrol stations. Four-days-long pass is 1170/1530 HUF, 10-days-long pass is 2550 HUF and monthly pass is 4200 HUF. Outside urban areas back seat passengers are also required to wear seat belts.
The alcohol limit is zero. Speed limits are 50 km/hour (31 mph) in urban areas, 90 km/hour (56 mph) on single carriageways, 110 km/hour, (68 mph) on dual carriageways and 130 km/hour (80 mph) on motorways.
