New York Palace
This five-level, Secessionist and Neo-Renaissance style palace, on the Erzsébet Boulevard (körút), was built at the very end of the 19th century, based on the plans of Alajos Hauszmann, for a large American insurance company which wanted to use it to advertise its services.
The New York Café, which once functioned on the ground-floor of the building, was luxuriously furnished in bronze and marble with Venetian chandeliers. It was of historic significance to literature, as it was the favourite meeting place of the early 20th century writers such as Ady, Babits, Karinthy, Kosztolányi and others. The palace functions as a Boscolo Luxury Hotel today.
